Laine’s ‘Buddy’ and Dear Friend Tsuki Carlson
Phillips Brooks School has a wonderful system of pairing 3rd graders with 3-4 year old entrants to the Early Learning Center (ELC). They call the children ‘Buddies’. They get together with their school families (multiple pairs of buddies with one teacher) regularly for play and guidance. We love the system. They remain paired for three years when the children complete kindergarten and 5th grade. Laine had the tremendous fortune of being buddies with Tsuki Carlson. We feel they chose each other. These two girls shared a great deal in common, and were cut from the same cloth. We believe they are both old souls, blessed with a tremendous sensitivity. They are able to empathize at the highest levels with those around them, and care deeply for those in their family and communities. They were gifts to each other, and helped each other tremendously for almost three years at PBS. Here, Tsuki is singing a Japanese song called “Kaze Ni Naru” which means “Becoming the Wind”. Tsuki learned the song and how to accompany it on the ukelele by watching videos on Youtube. Tsuki dedicated this song to her friend Laine. The song is beautifully sung. We find Tsuki’s voice truly enchanting – it is hard to stop listening to it repeatedly.
