Laine is Empathetic – “Be the Guinea Pig!”Posted in Age Six, Laine Daily Life, Phillips Brooks School | 0 comments Laine’s primary characteristic was empathy. She felt what others felt, in her core, and acted accordingly. There is a wonderful story of Laine taking care of her cousin’s guinea pigs Bobo and Coco. Sensing that they were scared when they first arrived at our house, she clenched her hands and her eyes and thought “be the guinea pig”. She had an idea. She went and gathered Fluttershy, the my little pony who was a friend to all animals. She got Fluttershy from her room and put her next to the guinea pig cage. I gave a talk on empathy at Laine’s school. Phillips Brooks in Menlo Park. I think empathy can be taught and practiced. If all practice it, our world would be a better place. The presentation I gave below emphasizes that Laine’s chief characteristic can, in fact. be practiced. Like a muscle. the feature can gain in strength with exercise.
